Holy Spirit Church started as the Sociedada Portuguesa Rainha Santa Isabel hall in Fairfield.

The hall was donated to the church in the spring of 1943.  The first pastor, Fr. John F. O’Brien, remodeled the hall with the help of parishioners, and the church was dedicated on October 10, 1943.

St. Alphonsus was combined with Holy Spirit Parish in 1950 after that church in Suisun was destroyed by fire.

Land was purchased on North Texas Street in September 1951.  Holy Spirit School and a parish hall were built in 1956.

Architect John G. Minton, San Francisco, designed the new church in 1959.  It was dedicated on April 13, 1961.

The rectory was moved to North Texas from its former location at 912 Broadway in 1962.

Carl Huneke, Century Stained Glass Studio, San Francisco, created the Holy Spirit window in faceted glass in 1969.  Mr. Huneke created the Holy Family triptych at the same time.

In 1975, the remaining windows in the nave were completed in faceted glass by Roger Hogan, Hogan Studios, Los Gatos.

The church was remodeled to reflect the concepts of Vatican II in 1982.  The design by architect Wesley J. Barnum, of Barnum and Folsom, placed the altar in the center of the nave, surrounded by a semicircle of seating.  John Lukas Studio, San Francisco created the leaded stained glass rose window in the choir in 1982.
