Santa Catalina School Rosary Chapel

1500 Mark Thomas Drive
Monterey

The stained glass windows in the chapel at Santa Catalina School were created by Carl Huneke.  The preliminary sketches were prepared in England.  The final design and the windows were completed in Mr. Huneke’s Century Stained Glass Studio, San Francisco, from the fall of 1955 through 1958.

The grisailles quarry backgrounds originally appeared in thirteenth century York.  The use of lilies for borders and transitions combines twelfth century French and early twentieth century American styles.  The figures are Mr. Huneke’s own serene, flowing representation of the Joyful and Glorious Mysteries.

The windows and the chapel were a gift of Marcia Farrell Hart in memory of her father, James C. Farrell.
