St. Anthony’s first church was dedicated in June of 1916 by Edward J. Hanna, Archbishop of San Francisco.  It was located at East Yosemite Avenue and Sherman Street.  That structure was destroyed by fire on September 12, 1960.

The new church building was built in 1961 on East North Street. And, was dedicated by Hugh A. Donahue, Bishop of Stockton, on May 6, 1962.  It was designed by R. J. Fiedler, Architect and built by the Reardon Company.  The main building material used in the construction was basalt block.

The stained glass windows were created by Carl Huneke, Century Stained Glass Studio, San Francisco.  The windows are grisailles quadrille based on designs, which originated in fourteenth century English cathedrals.  The themes for the windows were selected by the parishioners who donated them.

Other notable artwork in the church includes marble work from studios in Pietrasanta, Italy, and the wood statuary which was hand carved in Italy, and the fourteen-foot bronze cross atop the bell tower.Ca
